Why sewing?

Why Sewing?

Since I can remember I had been around a sewing table. My grandmother had a clothing store with her sisters. They created items on their own and also they import clothes from Germany. My mother told me that the line of the store was so long that it went over the corner of the block. When that chapter finished for them, my grandmother brought all the bottoms, sewing patterns, her machine etc to the house that I lived with her. She had a dedicated room to sew and it was amazing. In the room there were cabinets from one side to the other side of the wall full with patterns (which I have them by the way).Besides that, she had a huge table where she cut the fabrics and in front of it there was a big circular mirror where you can check yourself out.The experiences that I had there were fun because she created pajamas, skirts, costumes etc for me. The ability to transform fabric to clothes is something that I learned from her and in that moment I felt in love with sewing.

The years came by and I got more more interested in sewing but I could not work a sewing machine. Imagine that! And I felt so frustrated that I wasn’t able to connect to clothes in the way that I wanted. So I started to study about clothes and their creations. Like any other girl I followed Vogue magazine religiously to see the trends, to see how they see clothes and the materials they used.It was eye opening to realize that it’s ok to feel that fashion in a different, in a more fun way. In our daily lives people always think that clothes need to be simple or just pretty enough. But that world show me that we can do more than that.

I started creating bags by hand, every stitch was done in that way. It took me hours to create a straight line. I knew I could do it by machine in just seconds but I couldn’t. At the end I did incredible bags with the knowledge that I had ( by the way I hand 0 knowledge about the actually construction of a bag). Those creations taught me how beautiful all that process is. I did like 5. I did them with denin and old blouses. I’m thinking about doing a tbt post where I  can share them. So  that was it, for a while I didn’t continue with that, think that was due to college or life. I can’t remember.

On March 12th of 2012 I started a blog called Tres Chic Rose where I did all kind of posts about fashion, beauty, entertainment and more. It was my way to practice the knowledge that I was getting. And also I got the chance to do amazing interviews with great people like a makeup artist from Vogue, yes from Vogue! I will repost those interviews in here one day. By that time I was living in Colombia, I lived there for 4 years. And then I returned to my house in Costa Rica and in that moment I realize that I needed to try one more time this dream of sewing. I arrived in Costa Rica on November 15th. In that same week I picked up my mom’s sewing machine and try it again.

With the help of YouTube I try it again and I did it! I created my first sewing bag! It was an amazing feeling when I saw that I was able to do it. And I continue practicing more and more. I still had some issues that I coudn’t control with the machine but that didn’t stop me. For that moment on, I was able to create different things like pencils cases, pillows etc. I felt over the moon and I knew that I found something special in me.

On January 2018 I was able to buy my own sewing machine. It was a new generation so all the issues that I was having went away. And that ladies and gentlemens is when this story gets better. My bags got bigger and better, I try new ways and forms to create interesting products and at the end I decided to take a chance with clothes. It was very difficult at the beggning, lots of sewing books but no results. Again YouTube saved the day and I learned from great people how to do clothes. And that is what made do this blog again.

I want to share my experiences, my tips , and my world to you. To help you understand this magical place that we called “sewing” . To create a space where you can learn or enjoy different things around clothes and products.

I hope you have fun in here! Welcome to my blog! Have a Trés Chic Day!
